This document describes how you should translate Modrinth to your language, please read through it carefully before suggesting any translations in the Crowdin project.

How translations are chosen in Crowdin:

Crowdin translations are chosen using the following points, ordered by priority:

  1. Has been manually approved either by a proofreader or a manager;
  2. Has the most positive votes;
  3. Is the newest suggestion;
  4. Is the only suggestion;

This means that as long as a good translation has at least one vote (even your own), and no other suggestion has more votes, it will be the one used on the site.

Key guidelines you have to follow when translating

Modrinth to your language:

  1. Translate the source strings always with the following in mind:
  2. Vote on other community member’s suggestions when going through the already translated strings.
  3. Do NOT vote down other translations just because you don’t like the other person’s work, remember that as a community project you have to work together with others to complete the translation effort, be objective and keep subjectiveness to a minimum.
  4. Do NOT spam low-quality translations in strings or just use translation software to automate the translation process, if you do this you will be permanently banned from ever translating Modrinth again. Note that using translation software as a tool to help you find the correct translation isn’t banned, but its use to automate the translation process is. (Also if you have to use it on every string as a crutch maybe translating isn’t for you, sorry.)
